UCLA is California's largest university, with an enrollment of nearly 38,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The UCLA College of Letters and Science and the university's 11 professional schools feature renowned faculty and offer more than 323 degree programs and majors. UCLA is a national and international leader in the breadth and quality of its academic, research, health care, cultural, continuing education and athletic programs. Five alumni and five faculty have been awarded the Nobel Prize.

UCLA Professor Bob Cousins has spent three years at CERN as a deputy to the leader of one of the huge experiments at the Large Hadron Collider.  "We're going to study the Big Bang as far back as we can take it," said Cousins, whose research group is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and who is principal investigator on a CMS grant funded by the National Science Foundation. "The fundamental questions," he said, "were asked by the ancient Greeks: Where did we come from, what are we made of? How did the universe evolve and what are the forces of the universe?
